Priming a coil

What is “priming a coil”?

If you think of 'priming' as the what is involved in making sure the cotton inside a Vape coil is sufficiently wet with e-liquid before you start to vape with it.

As coils(coil heads, atomizer heads, wicks, burners, inserts all words for the same thing)  are now becoming quite big and filled with more cotton for a better flavour the vape juice can take longer to soak in to the cotton on the inside. Some coils take no time at all, you can just sit them on the side for a few minutes and they're ready, and others can take much longer.

To lower the risk of experiencing a burnt taste and a ruined coil, following these simple steps for 'priming' your vape coils

Installing the coil and filling the tank

Install a new coil into the base of your tank.

For standard vape coils, drip a couple of drops of eliquid directly into the hole in the top of the coil to help the juice soak into the coil.

If you're using larger coils you can also add a couple of drops onto the exposed cotton through the holes around the coil.

You will usually need to fill your tank to its fullest level, but just give the device a quick look over to see if there are any maximum fill lines.

Screw everything back together securely but don't over tighten hand tight is just fine.

Priming process

Leave your full tank to sit for a few minutes  - it can take several minutes for the liquid to be absorbed and completely soak in  the new coil you've just installed.

The liquid needs to fully soak the cotton in the coil before it’s heated - there shouldn't be any dry areas of cotton inside the coil before you press the fire button.

Thinner liquids are likely to take less time, thicker liquids and those with a higher level of VG (vegetable glycerin) and larger coils are likely to take longer to prime.

You can speed up the process by drawing on your vape without pushing the fire button just until you are able to taste a slight bit of flavour as this will help pull the liquid into the coil.

You draw from the mouthpiece as normal but you don't press the fire button.

This will create a suction as you draw will help to pull the liquid into the cotton on the inside the coil so it becomes fully soaked in

So, take a few gentle draws WITHOUT pressing the battery button. Five draws should be sufficient, but it can vary on the size of coil and thickness of the juice.

After this step turn you device down to a low wattage or temperature and slowly turn it up, remembering to take a few draws in between.

if you can't alter your wattage or temperature that's one less thing to worry about.

Proceed then by taking quick hits - a quick hit means to take draws from the mouthpiece very quickly without inhaling the vapour (quick hit, blow out).
